Yo! Good morning crew, happy Thursday! I hope everyone is having an awesome and killer day. Today I want to talk about how when things get familiar, you’ll either get curious or you’ll get cynical. And today I’m going to challenge you to choose curiosity.
You’ve heard the phrase “familiarity breeds contempt,” but I’d say it breeds either curiosity or cynicism—and it’s your choice. Whichever one you feed is what will grow. Our brains are wired to find the quickest, easiest mental path. So if cynicism is the pattern, that’s where we’ll naturally default. But if we train our minds to approach familiarity with curiosity, it opens up creativity.
Cynicism says “I’ve seen this before,” and shuts things down. Curiosity leans in. It asks questions. It stays soft and open to ideas. Even Jesus—who literally knew everything—was found in the temple at age 12 asking questions. His example shows us that knowing everything doesn’t mean we stop being curious.
Proverbs 18:15 says, “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out.” That’s the posture we’re called to carry into every meeting, moment, and opportunity.
So today—where in your work, your relationships, or your life have you gotten cynical? Flip the script. Ask a better question. Curiosity creates; cynicism just protects what already exists.
Let’s go. Let’s lock in. Stay foxy.
